Translation Blunders Costs You Big In Business.
Translation is very sensitive process, especially in case of businesses. One blunder may bring you much loss in the business. This is why people hire for very reputed professional companies to translate their documents appropriately.
Let’s go through some of the blunders that occurred when people tried to use machine translation and freelance in-experienced translators.
- The Chinese translation of, Pepsi's "Come alive with the Pepsi Generation" became "Pepsi brings your ancestors back from the grave"
- Another incident occurred with Coca Cola in same Chinese language. When it translated its name to Chinese, it meant "Bite the wax tadpole” or "Female horse stuffed with wax", according to the dialect. It then struggled a lot to find the name Ke Kou Ke Le, which means “happiness in the mouth”.
- The famous jingle of KFC which says “Finger- lickin' good”, was translated as "Eat your fingers off".
- Electrolux, the Scandinavian vacuum manufacturer, once launched an American ad campaign. It said “Nothing sucks like an Electrolux”
Those were real big companies which helped them cope up with the mistranslations immediately. But what if yours is a small or medium enterprise?
